Procedures
- Livestock Equipment Identification: (100 points) Identify the proper name for twenty-five pieces of equipment used in livestock production.
- Livestock Breed Identification: (100 points) Identify from the photographs or pictures, twenty livestock (beef, swine, sheep, and goat) breeds.
- Feedstuff ldentification:_(50 points) Identify ten feedstuffs by the proper name.
- Meat Judging Class: (50 points) Rank a class of four similar retail cuts of
- Wool Judging Class: (50 points) Rank a class of four similar fleeces of
- Feed Tag Knowledge: (50 points) With a provided feed tag, read and analyze the information and answer 5 questions regarding the information.
- Quality Assurance: (50 points) With a provided medicine label, and livestock scenario, answer 10 questions regarding label use, withdrawal times, and proper injection location.
- Retail Meat ID: (50 points) Identify beef, lamb, and pork retail cuts from the National 4-H Meat Judging Retail ID List. Contestants will identify the retail cut specie, primal cut, and retail cut name.
- Hay Judging Class: Rank a class of four samples of hay based upon a
- Industry Quiz: Complete a 30-question multiple choice quiz concerning the total livestock industry. Resource will be the Texas FFA quiz bank.
- Tie Breaker. In the case of ties, the scores from the judging classes will be used to break the tie for juniors and intermediates, and the score from the 10-item retail I.D. will be used to break ties for the The Livestock Skillathon Committee will resolve any emerging contest issues.
Rules and Regulations
- Teams consist of three or four members. In teams in which there are four members, all will compete; but the member receiving the lowest overall score will be automatically declared the alternate. The scores of the alternate will not be included in any of the team totals but will be considered in making all individual awards. Teams consisting of three members will have no alternate, and all members’ scores will count in determining individual and team awards
